Billionaire Writes His Name Really Big on the Earth

As seen from space (Google Earth)

A man in Abu Dhabi has been dabbling in geoglyphs.

Billionaire oil sheikh Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan had the shape of his first name dug out of the sand on Al Futaisi Island, which he owns. There are two long miles between ‘H’ and ‘D,’ and the letters are a half a mile from bottom to top.

You’ll also notice that the Caps Lock was on. So, if you’re reading the name from space (a place from which it’s perfectly visible), it’ll seem like it’s being shouted at you, or said with emphasis.

Here’s something else cool: The tip of the ‘H’ connects with the Arabian Gulf, so water has bled into the name. You literally can sail the HAMAD. Forbes.com thinks maybe he’s gunning for tourism. There are golf courses and resorts in the vicinity.

To give you some background on the oil sheikh — he’s 63, a member of the Abu Dhabi ruling family, and he owns 200 cars, including seven Mercedes that are painted in the colors of the rainbow, according to TIME.

How do you think HAMAD compares to the Nazca’s work in Peru?
