I am now on my first week of “consolidation phase” (Phase 3). I will admit that I expected to gain some weight back this week (especially since we went to an all-you-can-eat restaurant on Sunday), and it is fascinating to me that that didn’t happen. I actually lost 0.2 pounds, finishing the week at 175.2. I did eat more fruit this week, and I also ate a fair amount of popcorn, but those are the only two carbs that I added this week. Based on the results of this week, I would say that adding these two carbs has been harmless. Here is how the week unfolded…
This is a fascinating graphic that will make you ask, “wait, what? Why do people EVER go to restaurants?” But it also explains another reason why Americans are obese – apparently our restaurants are trying to fatten us up: Dining On A Budget Is it cheaper to eat at home… or go out? This elusive [...]
Dukan diet Cruise Phase (Phase 2) week 25: I have reached 175 pounds
by Marshall Brain | October 19, 2010
Here is my journey so far with the Dukan Diet: – I wrote an article on the Dukan diet: How the Dukan Diet works – The French diet that is supposed to end the obesity epidemic – I started with a 5-day “attack phase”: Yesterday I finished a five-day “Attack Phase” on the Dukan Diet [...]
Today I am reporting on my twenty fourth week (days 165 through 172) on the Dukan diet. This week I appear to be a little bit stuck. On Day 168 I gained 3.2 pounds in water for reasons that I don’t completely understand, and it has been slow to come back off. So I eneded up gaining 0.8 pounds for the week rather than losing weight. The goal of 175.0 remains elusive. Here is how the week unfolded…
Today I am reporting on my twenty third week (days 158 through 165) on the Dukan diet. This week has been a really good one on the weight-loss front. I managed to lose 3.6 pounds for the week, bringing my total weight loss on the Dukan diet to 51.2 pounds. I am eating an average of 1,900 calories per day (while getting a good amount of exercise) without feeling hungry. I bought some pants this week with a 32-inch waist and they fit comfortably. And in theory I now know the secret to getting six-pack abs. Here is how the week unfolded:
How to do proper crunches to (theoretically) get six-pack abs
by Marshall Brain | October 1, 2010
Is it possible for a normal person who isn’t a teenager or a 20-something to have six-pack abs? Obviously it is possible for some people, because Sylvester Stallone has amazing abs. But Stallone wouldn’t really fall into the “normal” category. Even Mike Sorrentino of Jersey Shore, who has perhaps the most famous set of abs today, makes it sound a little like rocket science…
Let’s say you are on a diet like the Dukan diet and you “get stuck” at a certain weight. You might have been losing weight for several weeks, and then the weight loss stops. Like this:
“I am trying to break the 80 kg barrier since the last 6 weeks or so and I have not been succesful yet. I seem to go up and down with a range of 2 kgs from 80 to 82 and back… very annoying and not really motivating I can tell you!”
Or this…
And today I am reporting on my twenty second week (days 151 through 158) on the Dukan diet. This week had moments of brilliance and I reached a new low of 176.6 (51.0 total pounds lost). But then I gained a bunch of water weight for reasons that are not entirely clear, and I ended the week up 2.0 pounds rather than losing weight. Here is how the week unfolded…
And today I am reporting on my twenty first week (days 144 through 151) on the Dukan diet. This has been a really good week because I hit 177.6 pounds, meaning that I have lost a total of 50.0 pounds so far on the Dukan diet. Yay! I also reaffirmed the water-purging qualities of asparagus and came face-to-face with my nut addiction. Of course that same day I hit the 50.0 milestone I ate a pound of hamburger patties for dinner and my weight rose 0.4 pounds. So yesterday I weighed 177.6, and today I am at 178.0. Overall, I lost 2.0 pounds for the week and have lost 49.6 pounds since starting the Dukan diet. Here is how the week unfolded:
As many of you know, I started on the Dukan diet about 150 days ago. Today I got on the scale and I weighed 177.6 pounds. Since I weighted 227.6 on the day that I started this diet, it means I reached the “50.0 pounds lost” milestone today.
Losing 50 pounds has made a huge difference in my life. But in addition, losing the first 10 pounds made a big difference in my life, and that only took a couple of weeks.
So what is the secret here?
