Do you remember all the buzz about Google Android last year? Before T-Mobile unveiled the HTC-G1, rumors were flying around the Internet about the operating system. Excitement was running high. Then the HTC-G1 debuted and excitement died down a little. The hardware didn’t blow anyone away and some said the G1′s battery drained too quickly. But fans of the Android platform held out hope — after all, unlike the Apple iPhone, the Android platform is available for any handset manufacturer and cell phone carrier to use in their phones. In theory, we should see dozens of devices running on the Android operating system.
But adoption has been slow — for months, the G1 was the only Android phone available. Even now, we only know of a few Android devices that will come to market this year. And T-Mobile, the cell phone carrier that brought the first Android phone to the United States, is leading the way.
After years of rumors, Google and T-Mobile are releasing a cell phone designed to use Android, Google’s new open-source software platform. Tune in to this HowStuffWorks podcast to learn more about the development of Google Android.
