How Accelerated Aging Works – the amazing aging of President Obama
by Marshall Brain | December 10, 2010
Accelerated aging is often used as a device in fiction, as seen in this clip from Star Trek: But it can also happen in real life, as demonstrated here: President Obama after 2 years This same kind of thing happened with President Bush: President Bush after 7 years President Bush after 8 years So what [...]
Ladies on the clock, relax. Although stress can help us get the job done, it isn’t good for our bodies. Fifty-four percent of American adults report stress-related physical side effects, including headaches, nausea and high blood pressure, and 75 to 90 percent of adults’ doctor visits are linked to these stress-related illnesses.
You’ve been working on a “new” project for several months, putting in 12- or 14-hour days and working through most of the weekends. That HUGE volunteer event you’ve been helping with is right around the corner. The holidays are coming up and you’ve not made or purchased a single gift. You feel like you’re on one of those automated sidewalks, it’s going way too fast and there’s no place to jump off. Oh, and that pesky little eye twitch that first appeared during spring semester finals your junior year of college is back. If only there were more hours in the day, then you’d be able to get everything on your checklists done and you’d feel so much better. Or would you?
I used to grind my teeth something fierce; once, when my mother came to visit me, she said it sounded like I was chewing rocks. Delightful, huh? And apparently I’m not the only one — in October of last year, the New York Times ran a story about how dentists are seeing more and more cases of tooth grinding thanks to economic stress. The costs of bruxism, or tooth grinding, can add up in the long run, though, as grinding can wear down enamel, break teeth, affect your bite and mess with your muscles.
Money the Cause of Most People’s Stress – Surprise!
by Charles W. Bryant | October 1, 2009
A new poll was released this week by Reader’s Digest (I know) that revealed the major causes of stress for people in 16 different countries. The majority of the folks listed money, which I’m assuming means a lack thereof. I doubt if the stress came from having so much money that you couldn’t find a place to store it.
Malaysia led the way in money stress, with 58 percent of those surveyed listing it as their number one. China and Singapore tied for second place at 55 percent, and the U.S. of A. was third with 48 percent listing money as their main stressor. Russia, France and Italy were at the bottom for money stress at 15, 18 and 19 percent, respectively.
During times of emergency, people have been known to preform feats of great strength. Learn more about going from the dull stare of the dairy cow to the eye of the tiger in seconds flat.
