The news about Steve Jobs passing away is taking the Web by storm. That’s only fitting considering Jobs’s impact on technology. Chris and I have recorded two TechStuff episodes about Steve Jobs. We could probably record two dozen and only scratch the surface of what Jobs accomplished.
By now, I assume you’ve heard the news. Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple, has stepped down from his role as CEO. Apple COO Tim Cook will assume the role of CEO and Jobs will become Chairman. Jobs wrote a brief but heartfelt resignation letter addressed to Apple employees explaining that he feels he is no longer capable of fulfilling the duties of CEO. His departure from Apple marks the end of a truly remarkable career.
Today was the first day of Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference, or WWDC. The event is a little different than other Apple conferences; with the focus on developers, the tone is more likely to be about software than the latest gadget or an updated computer line. There was a lot of news, but few surprises at today’s event.
There were few surprises at today’s event. CEO Steve Jobs, who has been on medical leave, made an appearance to lead the keynote, which finally revealed the cloud service that many had been expecting for some time.
Has Jonathan Ive decided that working for Apple has lost its appeal?
by Jonathan Strickland | February 28, 2011
This morning, I read a post written by Charlie White at Mashable that suggests Apple’s troubles at the executive level could potentially intensify. White cites articles from a couple of British newspapers that say Jonathan Ive, the head of industrial design at Apple, may not be entirely happy with his situation. If Ive were to leave Apple, it could be a big blow.
Yesterday, news broke that Apple CEO and co-founder Steve Jobs is taking a leave of absence from the company to concentrate on his health. This is the third time since 2004 that Jobs has stepped back from steering the massive ship that is Apple after receiving a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. The last time Jobs took time off was in 2009. If you read the headlines then, you might be experiencing deja vu now. Heck, I even wrote several blog posts about it at the time.
Steve Jobs unveiled Apple’s updated iPod line yesterday. Chris and I watched the presentation on Chris’s iPad. It was the first time Apple pushed a live stream of a big company announcement in a long time. The only catch was you had to view it on an Apple device or through Safari on a Mac running Snow Leopard. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised — Jobs has a well-earned reputation for doing things his own way. In fact, the only part of the presentation that did surprise me was that Jobs wasn’t wearing a turtleneck.
This morning, Apple CEO Steve Jobs did exactly what he was expected to do. For a while now, we’ve known that the company was working on an updated iPhone, primarily because of the whole lost-iPhone-prototype fiasco that took place back in April. And given that Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, or WWDC, is taking place today, it was a pretty good bet that there’d be an announcement along those lines at the keynote.
Why would a person spend $1,000 for an Apple laptop when he or she can get more features for $500 by buying a laptop from HP, Dell, Asus, etc? To an Apple loyalist, I imagine this is a silly question. But to anyone else, it makes little sense. Case in point is the iPad, as [...]
Come join us at 1 p.m. Eastern today for the latest news and rumors in the world of technology. [Editor's note: No, that didn't happen.] Did Google turn all of its search results upside down for Australia Day? [Editor's note: No, that didn't happen either.] Did Facebook alienate its users through yet another redesign? [Editor's note: That one actually happened.] Plus you don’t want to miss our special effects extravaganza known as the Tweet of the Week!
