It must be exhausting being a tenacious skeptic of the variety that exerts effort to point out to other just how unlikely or dumb their ideas are. While you’re just one rational humanist, there is a seemingly limitless supply of what you consider really bonehead beliefs: God, UFOs, perpetual motion, hollow Earth, the Mars face, witchcraft, Piltdown man, chupacabras, chemtrails, hypnosis — it just keeps going on like this.

Thanks to episodes of “Unsolved Mysteries,” I spent a chunk of the 1990s fearful of my own inevitable abduction and subsequent probing at the hands of alien beings from another world. I managed to survive the ’90s un-abducted and un-probed, but the same can’t be said for an alleged 4 million Americans (according to a controversial 1991 Roper poll). So just what is happening? Julie and I dig into the question in this week’s podcast main event.

Normally, I summarize the TechStuff podcast topics in a single blog post at the end of the week but Monday’s topic deserves special attention. Chris and I talked about a few photographs, forum posts and videos that some people say are evidence that we will eventually figure out how to travel through time. That’s an extraordinary claim and it requires extraordinary evidence. So how does the evidence stand up to scrutiny?

When Chris and I step into the recording studio, we record at least two episodes of TechStuff at a time. On some days, we’ll record three shows. We do this so that we have several episodes in reserve. If one of us goes on vacation or has a sick day, we’ll still have episodes to publish twice a week for all our loyal listeners.

But we don’t pick when each episode publishes. Those decisions fall to our wonderful production crew. You’ve heard us (and some of the other podcasters) mention these people in other episodes. Folks like Jeri, Matt, Tyler, Liz and Rachel work hard to make us sound good. They also schedule our shows for publication and write all the meta data. Their contributions are invaluable.

This week, two episodes featuring rants from yours truly went live. Now if I had been in charge of the publication schedule, I probably would have given you guys a break from my ire. But that was not meant to be. Don’t blame the production staff though — they think it’s funny when I get angry.
