Hey there, podcast fans. I hope everyone has had a stellar week so far. It’s time for a little podcast recap — a chance for you to discuss what you think about this week’s shows. Tuesday we released the long awaited cults episode. This goes pretty well as a one two punch with the episode on brainwashing we did quite a while ago.
We learned all about how cults operate, how they recruit and a bit on what would make a person want to join a cult in the first place. Turns out there are some desperate folks out there looking for answers. We also hit a bit on how to exit a cult, from the forced kidnappings and deprogramming that has happened to the no kidnapping, let’s just get them out nicely and reprogram kind of thing.
Mr. Charlie Sheen has been sucking up all of the headlines these days with his multiple interviews addressing his behavior, his addictions and his show. He was first suspended from Two and a Half Men, and finally was fired late yesterday. Watching these interviews has been pretty distressing if you ask me. Sure, it’s funny at first, but in the end what we’re watching is the slow disintegration of a human being.
Podcast Goodness: Tickling and Stagflation
by Charles W. Bryant | February 25, 2011
Hello, folks. Sorry for the absence, but the podcast goodness leg of the SYSK podcast program is back in full effect. Welcome to new readers, and hello to the old standbys. This week on the show we covered a couple of topics that are kind of weird when paired together — tickling and stagflation.
Stuff Mom Never Told You about Kissing and Why You Feel So Cold
by Molly Edmonds | February 18, 2011
This week on Stuff Mom Never Told You, Cristen and I tried to warm you up, only to cool you right back down. Monday’s topic was kissing, something that’s guaranteed to give a person a fever, if Peggy Lee is to be believed. Most of the time, we’d prefer other people’s saliva stay far away from us, so why are we so eager to swap it with a person we love?
Podcast Goodness: Addicted to Migration

Hey there, folks. Chuck here with a little podcast recap — a chance for the SYSK Army to get together and chat about this week’s episodes. Here at HQ things are feeling decidedly like Autumn. It’s here in full swing and folks around these parts are pretty happy to see our lovely tree-filled city full of yellow, orange and brown. I hope it’s as beautiful in your neck of the woods.
So this week on the Stuff You Should Know podcast program Mr. Clark and I covered a couple of topics that we both found pretty interesting.
Podcast Goodness: Roller Derby and Tone Deafness
by Charles W. Bryant | October 1, 2010
It’s podcast goodness time! This week on the Stuff You Should Know podcast program, we covered a couple of topics dealing with women. They were pretty different, but about women all the same.Tuesday’s show was on roller derby, a sport that was invented in the 1950s, died in the 1970s, 80s and 90s, and has been reborn in a big way here in the new millennium. Back in the day, it was more of an endurance competition. The inventor realized pretty quickly that people banging into one another was a little more exciting though, and roller derby evolved pretty quickly into more of a contact sport.
Podcast Goodness: Octopi and Hypnosis
by Charles W. Bryant | September 24, 2010
How about a little podcast goodness wrap-up?
This week on the Stuff You Should Know podcast program, we covered something from nature and something from the mystical realms of the unknown. Well, sort of. Tuesday’s show was all about one our favorite sea creatures, the octopus. We’ve gotten some good feedback from other folks who also claim that the octopus is their favorite sea creature. We had n idea these amazing eight legged bags of ink were so darn popular. My favorite thing about the octopus?
A few days ago, Katie wrote about the panel in which we participated at Dragon*Con with Stuff You Missed in History Class. It was a lot of fun, and I’m glad we had the chance to take part. But Jonathan and I also had the opportunity to sit down with a couple of well-respected tech journalists, Tom Merritt and Veronica Belmont, to do a very special episode of TechStuff.
Podcast Goodness: Those Wacky Sleepwalking Freemasons
by Charles W. Bryant | August 27, 2010
Hello there, folks. Chuck Bryant here reporting from HSW.com HQ in Atlanta, Georgia. I know I promised to not mention the weather until something changed and low and behold, that’s happened. It’s actually cooled down ever so slightly here over the past day or so. We’re talking manageable heat though, it’s not exactly fall sweeping through. But I’ll take it.
This week on the Stuff You Should Know podcast program, Dr. Clark and myself talked about a couple of things — one that many people are well acquainted with and one that’s a little more, shall we say, mysterious.
Podcast Goodness: Breathalyzers and the MARS Turbine
by Charles W. Bryant | August 20, 2010
Greetings, earthlings. Chuck here from the Stuff You Should Know podcast program. How about we just get right to the goodness, isn’t everyone else really busy? Plus I refuse to talk about the weather again until early October. This week on the show, we rapped about a couple of science topics that were pretty cool. [...]
