Yesterday’s episode of TechStuff was the culmination of  a month-long experiment. In August, I asked Chris “what would happen if we outsourced the research for one of our episodes?” Chris got that sparkly, happy look in his eyes and said “that means we wouldn’t have to do any work!” Believing that we had stumbled onto [...]

This week on TechStuff, we decided to kick off our metaphorical shoes and have some fun. We took a short break from our more technical topics to look at some subjects that are near and dear to the TechStuff heart. Monday’s episode brought back memories of plunking down quarters to challenge the arcade champion to a game of Mortal Kombat. Wednesday’s show reminded us why we took up knitting just to make our own mile-long scarf.

Last Friday, Google celebrated the 30th birthday of a very special celebrity: PAC-MAN. Google’s logo appeared in the form of a very wide level of the famous arcade game. For the uninitiated, Space Invaders is a simple game. There’s an invading horde of creatures slowly making your way to your planet. Your job is to shoot them down with your … cannon? Rocket ship that doesn’t leave the ground? Gun thingy? … that slides back and forth horizontally and can hide behind shields, at least, until the invaders reach that level, when they disappear. That doesn’t sound fair, does it? Nor is it fair that with each alien you take out, his or her buddies speed up a notch, until the last one’s chugging downscreen at an alarming and very hard-to-hit rate.
