The fact that I even labeled this a “female” profession is a major indicator of how pigeonholed and stereotyped it has been, arguably for the duration of its existence. What, pray tell, is this most-stereotyped lady job? The secretary, or administrative assistant in today’s office parlance.
Here at HowStuffWorks headquarters, the powers that be seem to think we operate best in a perpetual state of deepfreeze. Well, we don’t. In my case anyway, coldness exacerbates sleepiness in a serious way, and the more I enter into a rigor mortis-like state of chilliness, the less I am able to perform basic tasks like typing and, you know, thinking.
So apart from a work-sweater and a work-fleece that are tucked away beneath my desk, I also have an emergency hold-the-phone-I-just-might-be-entering-hibernation-actual-work-blanket. (Seriously, it’s that bad.) Anyway, because of all this, I thought I might compile a list of tips for myself and other workers shivering their way through a frigid workday.
