I like posting these kinds of stories because folks usually get worked up in one direction or another on any kind of UFO talk. This one is pretty neat too, because it hints at one of my all time favorite movies, The Abyss. In that movie, writer/director James Cameron explores the notion that extra-terrestrials are actually found under the sea and not in outer space. Cool stuff.
Rest easy, sharks. Commercial fishermen can’t get you if you’re swimming around in the new 243,000-square-mile (630,000-square-kilometer) shark sanctuary off the coast of The Bahamas.
Yesterday, the Bahamian government announced that commercial shark fishing is banned within those waters.
I really never get tired of blogging about this place.
Behold the latest addition to the Museo Subacuatico de Arte (MUSA) off the coast of Cancun. Not far from the underwater crowd of people and man sitting on his couch watching TV parks this Beetle — with a sleepy person on the hood.
Yesterday, I was watching this pretty little video of the Georgia Aquarium when the weedy sea dragon drifted into cute-view. It’s in the seahorse family (Sygnathidae), only it looks weedier, and more dragonlike than horselike. Look at it’s snout.
Also, sea dragon males are super supportive and “give birth” to the sea dragon babies.

World Record #160 – Surfing for 26 consecutive hours, riding 147 waves
by Marshall Brain | January 24, 2011
This video describes one man’s successful attempt to break the world record for the longest surfing session. He surfed for 26 consecutive hours and rode 147 waves: What could have gone wrong? For one thing, there is this risk – 25 foot waves: – Surfer Seriously Injured At Mavericks Surf Spot (video) – “The surfer, [...]
The Milky Sea: The Other Milky Way
by Amanda Arnold | November 9, 2010
“At first sight, the ocean seemed lactified,” wrote Jules Verne in his 1869 science fiction novel “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.” Lactified? Yep, that was Verne’s cute way of saying the ocean looked milky. And he wasn’t the first person to describe a “sea of milk” in the Indian Ocean. Since the 17th century, sailors have reported sightings of strange, milky-white waters, stretching as far as the eye can see. For the most part, these reports were shrugged off as tall tales. But it turns out the milky seas are real.
I’ve been investigating the future of hotels again, and some of them are submerged.
For example, for $15,000 (or $30,000 for you and your favorite companion), you can enjoy a package seven-day stay at Poseidon Undersea Resort off the coast of Fiji. What’s special about this luxury resort? Well, for one thing you take an elevator 40 feet down into the sea to access your room, which, judging from the drawings, is more like an underwater bubble.
As boats go, this one is pretty amazing. It is called the M80 Stiletto and it has a top speed of 50 knots….
In terms of phobias, fear of deep water — which is categorically looped in with aquaphobia — ranks pretty high on my list. That being said, this post isn’t really all that relevant for me personally, because if I found myself in a rubber raft in the middle of the ocean, chances are excellent I would immediately proceed to suffer a fatal heart attack. (Note: Anyone also unlucky enough to be in said raft may cannibalize me or use bits of my body to keep sharks at bay. I don’t really care, plus times can get tough when you’re lost at sea. So it’s cool, I get it …)
But, for those with heartier constitutions when it comes to the vast watery depths, I thought it might be interesting to run down the list of actions that are considered smart moves if you happen to find yourself shipwrecked.
