The other day, I was chatting with a co-worker about The New York Times’ list of “31 Places to Go in 2010.” We agreed that Sri Lanka sounds like lovely place to see, but that — seriously, after Tightwad 2009, who has the cash for that kind of trip? After I got back to my desk, I was tooling around the Web and came across an amusing retaliation list: “10 Places Not to Go in 2010,” which includes Pakistan, Scranton, Pa., and my personal favorite, Rotorua, New Zealand, a place that, because of its geothermal activity, reeks like “cheesy feet.”
Top 5 Underground Stomping Grounds: Crystal Cave

Remember in “Superman II,” when those three creepy people wearing ice skating costumes fly Lois Lane and Lex Luthor out to Superman’s Fortress of Solitude?
That’s exactly what this place looks like: Superman’s Fortress of Solitude. Only, unlike the fortress, which is located in an ice field and is presumably pretty chilly, the Cueva de los Cristales is located underground. And, oddly, it’s really hot down there. In fact, the crystal cave can heat up to 112 degrees Fahrenheit — a unique temperature for a cave, and yet the perfect temperature for crystal-making.
The crystal cave is located 1,000 feet below the desert of Northern Mexico and was discovered in 2000 by two brothers who were drilling for lead and silver in the Naica mine.
I had a poetry professor who said that all poems are about death — all of them. Every time he said this, and he said it a lot, I didn’t particularly like it. I suppose I was afraid he was right.
The nice thing about the Day of the Dead is that it’s frank. I don’t know whether all poems are about death, but I know for sure that the Day of the Dead is about death.
