I have just figured out what the lump on the inside of my right forearm is. It’s my oversized CYP1A2 gene, the one responsible for caffeine metabolism cravings. WebMD recently ran an article (thanks for the link, LOML) on how researchers are finding that genes likely play a role in a desire for more caffeine in some people than in others. Really, the concept could change our understanding of addiction, or cravings at least.

The gigantic oil giant BP had to have been happy to get some good press on October 20, the 6-month anniversary of the beginning one of the two worst oil spills in U.S. history. The explosion that killed 11 rig workers and destroyed the well in the Gulf of Mexico, which ultimately released about 140 million gallons of oil, creating a slick twice the size of New Jersey (about 16,000 square miles).

I’m sure most of you have heard about the recent incident involving a Harvard professor and the Cambridge Police Dept. If not, in a nutshell: A woman reported to police that two men seemed to be breaking into a house. The home belonged to renowned Harvard prof Henry Louis Gates Jr.
