Several times over the past few months, I’ve jokingly mentioned to some of my co-workers that I was going to create an auto industry flowchart on the walls of my cubicle. I was thinking of using actual auto manufacturer emblems (pulled from a local junkyard), color-coded Post-it notes and string — lots of string. But now, thanks to Mint.com, I won’t have to clutter my cubicle walls.
I’m going to make this brief today. Right to the point — I promise. So, without further fanfare, here’s what Ben and I have been up to on our High Speed Stuff podcast over the past week…
Over the years, I’ve owned, or had the opportunity to drive, a few cars that I think could best be described as “a handful” to drive. However, after reading a short feature article in the July 2009 edition of Car and Driver titled, How to: Drive a Ford Model T, I now realize that no car I’ve ever driven can compare. Ford’s Model T is a true test of driver skill.
I know there was a lot happening in automotive news just 24 hours ago, but things are starting to settle down once more — at least for now, anyway. And since everyone was so GM- and Chrysler-focused yesterday (and with good reason), I figured I’d share with you Ford Motor Company’s statement regarding GM’s bankruptcy filing, just in case you missed it.
Well, it’s done. General Motors has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. If you’re interested (and this will only take about 30 seconds to read), here’s the simple, yet well-crafted statement from the GM Board of Directors.

You may have a hard time believing this, but it’s true — Ford Motor Company is giving away cars!
It’s all part of the Ford “Fiesta Movement” that’s currently underway, and if you’re not in yet, well, maybe you should consider it.
The 2011 Ford Fiesta, a car that Motor Trend called a “Gotta Have” car, is headed to U.S. roads, but not until early 2010. Ford is providing a few individuals (they’re calling them “special agents,” by the way) with the chance to be the first in the nation to drive the new Fiesta, at no cost to the driver, for six months.
The Ford Fiesta Movement Web site says, “As a driver, you’ll receive monthly secret assignments from Ford Mission Control that will take you to places you’ve never been, to meet people you’ve never met, and to experiences you’ll never forget. And you’ll bring your friends and followers along for the ride.”
