Divorce lawyers at the firm Grant Thornton reported a new trend in couples severing nuptial ties: affairs aren’t the biggest factor pushing people apart. And, no, it’s not the economy, stupid, although tighter budgets might put a strain on the heartstrings.

Pretty soon the Carrying Capacity podcast will be published and we’ll all know that the highest number anyone’s reasonably come up with as the upper end of the human population the Earth can possibly sustain with our current understanding of ourselves, the biogeochemical processes of the planet and our ability to exploit these processes to maintain ourselves is 40 billion. Forty billion people and that includes a lot of factors that aren’t in place yet.

One of the most surprising things that did not happen with the royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton was the signing of a prenuptial agreement. Although William earns only around $61,000 as a flight lieutenant with the Royal Air Force, and Kate has been unemployed since the engagement, both bring sizeable family fortunes to the table.

So why no prenup for the newly named Duke and Duchess of Cambridge?

Many, many episodes ago on Stuff Mom Never Told You, I jokingly commented to Molly that we should abolish marriage. We had been discussing the legal differences between civil unions and marriages, and after dissecting the legalese ad nauseum, I mentioned that maybe we should just do away with the whole thing. Let folks couple up as they will, and call it a day.

This week, “Good Morning America” aired an interview with famed father-of-eight Jon Gosselin. Whether you’re on Team Jon, Team Kate or Team I Don’t Care, it’s hard not to be amazed by some of the things Gosselin said. Things like, “I despise [Kate]” or “I love [my current girlfriend] more than I did Kate” or an accusation that Kate took his wedding ring (all information procured from this ABC News article).
