I’m excited for Valentine’s Day, but sadly, I know that fondness for the V Day is hardly universal. It’s intended to be a celebration of friendship and affection, love and devotion, but for far too many people it engenders much less ecstatic emotions, among them loathing and disgust. And as far as I can tell, apart from the hyper-commercialization of Valentine’s Day and the societal standard that suggests that being paired-up is a must when mid-February rolls around, one of the most frequent reasons people have for disliking the holiday is the pressure to plan and execute a perfect evening. If that’s your chief complaint, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! First up: the meal.
