Once upon a time, it seemed as if I spent most of my time on this blog bemoaning the sudden ubiquity of Hollywood remakes. I thought that the critics were with me on this one — until today, when I saw that Salon has basically surrendered to the remake juggernaut. The title of the article? “Why We Should Give Remakes a Chance.” Et tu, Salon? It sure seems so.

If you’ve heard much about the new HBO series “Game of Thrones” — and I’m sure you have, as it’s been everywhere lately — you may have heard about the controversy surrounding the show. Ironically, this one seems to have been generated by the show’s reviewers. Aren’t critics supposed to stay above the fray? Eh, don’t answer that …

In yesterday’s post, I told you that charities are the reason that Congress decided on 18 miles per gallon as the limit on “clunker” trade-ins. Yet, despite that major modification of the program — which, by the way, was intended to alleviate some of the concerns that charities had prior to the start of Cash for Clunkers — a lot of charities are still unhappy.
