I ran across a cool online magazine today that featured a blog post about a phenomenon known as ToyVoyagers. Inspired in part by the 2001 movie “Amélie” which featured a jet-setting garden gnome in one of the film’s many subplots, ToyVoyagers are little stuffed animals who journey the world while their exploits are chronicled online in Travelogs that consist of photos and brief descriptions of all the sights they take in.

Confession time: In the last month, I’ve logged in to Google Reader and marked 1,000+ items as read in one fell swoop at least four times. And if you read FanStuff regularly, you’ve probably noticed that, aside from a flurry of activity leading up to Halloween, the blog’s been pretty quiet. There’s plenty of cool stuff happening in the worlds of TV, movies, music and games, and I could probably get to it all with the help of time dilation. But as it stands now, FanStuff needs more cowbell than I can provide by myself.

So, starting this week, HowStuffWorks editor Chanel Lee is going to be joining me at FanStuff. Find out more about her after the jump.

Ratings gurus The Nielson Company recently revealed that “member communities,” which means social networks and blogs, are now visited by 67 percent of the online community. This makes member communities the fourth most popular places to go on the Web, moving AHEAD of personal e-mail. Not only that, but it’s growing twice as fast as any of the other top four — search, portals, PC software and email.
