When discussing the concept of love at first sight on the most recent Stuff Mom Never Told You episode, Molly and I speak solely from the perspective of being able to actually see the object of attraction. But how might that instant magnetism change if you’re blind? According to one blind man’s account, it seems that ‘love at first sight’ then becomes ‘love at first sound’.

A recent story in the Metro UK about a Polish goose named Buttons who has become a caretaker to a blind dog named Baks reminded me of all of those other similar stories of animals adopting other animals. Buttons has decided that Baks will live, live!, and leads Baks around their shared yard, either by using her long neck to guide the dog or by honking in the direction Baks should walk.

Sadly, we will be long gone from Austin before most of the awesome music starts happening, so I won’t be witness to the amazing beatbox/DJ virtuoso Beardyman on the 19th.

I was just reading a really cool Q&A with Peter White, the host of the BBC World Service’s “Blind Man Roams the Globe,” a broadcast in which White gives listeners a taste of what it’s like to “sightsee” when you can’t see.

In The Independent article, White describes the marble at the Taj Mahal as “incredible to the touch” and “a wonderful smooth sensation,” but indicates that the spirituality of the place was more difficult to grasp when it couldn’t be heard — at least not in the voices of tourists who were discussing the latest TV shows (as was the case when he visited).

On the other hand, a soccer match in Istanbul was a feast for the ears …
