Ig Nobel Prizes 2009: Bar Fights and Tequila Diamonds
by Robert Lamb | October 6, 2009
Granted, I’m not actually the kind of guy to ever wind up in a bar fight. But if I WERE to find myself fighting for my life in an East Texas roadhouse, which bottle should I choose to smash over the head of my attacker? An empty or an unopened brew? Leave it to science to nail down an answer for us.
Yesterday our very own Chuck Bryant posted about President Obama having Henry Louis Gates Jr. and James Crowley over to the White House for a beer. While sipping on some suds, the men were to discuss the incident in which Gates was arrested by Crowley, which set off a whirlwind of discussion about race in America. Much was made of the beers the men selected for their tête-à-tête, and the commenters on Chuck’s blog entry chimed in with the beers they would choose for such a meeting.
But here’s my question: were the beers properly served?
I’m sure most of you have heard about the recent incident involving a Harvard professor and the Cambridge Police Dept. If not, in a nutshell: A woman reported to police that two men seemed to be breaking into a house. The home belonged to renowned Harvard prof Henry Louis Gates Jr.
