About Charles W. Bryant
Charles W. (Chuck) Bryant co-hosts the “Stuff You Should Know” podcast along with his trusty sidekick, Josh Clark. He was born in Atlanta in the early 1970s under the sign of Pisces. Twenty-four years later, he earned an English degree at the University of Georgia. He spent the next decade traveling, pursuing creative endeavors and getting street smart. He and his wife-to-be moved back to Atlanta in 2004, with four pets in tow. He hooked up with HowStuffWorks.com shortly after co-host Josh was hired, and the pair bonded immediately over their love of Hunter S. Thompson, the fight-or-flight response and dive bars. In his off-time, Chuck enjoys hanging out with his wife, cooking and playing in his old-man band. He loves his neti pot and hates cold bathroom floors. You can find Chuck on Twitter at @SYSKPodcast and on Facebook at the official Stuff You Should Know page.

Hello there, folks. Thanks for stopping by the blog for a little podcast goodness — your chance to converse and fellowship with other listeners about all things SYSK. On Tuesday’s show, we covered a topic I’ve been meaning to get to for a while now — mummies. I’m a long time fan of the mummy, personally. From movies when I was a kid, to the shows where adventurers crack open the tombs to find real mummies, I’ve always been into it. So this episode was a great chance for me to learn things I never knew about the famous “wrapped-in-bandages” human beings.
Here’s something that maybe not many of you might know — there have been two presidents of the United States that have seen a UFO. True! It turns out that both Reagan and Carter claimed to have seen UFOs before they were in the Oval Office.
Podcast Goodness: Sterilization of Addicts
by Charles W. Bryant | March 11, 2011
Hi there, folks. If you’re looking for a place to talk about yesterday’s podcast then look no further. It’s happening right here at the weekly podcast goodness blog. Yesterday here on the Stuff You Should Know podcast program we delved into a topic that was pretty darn controversial — the sterilization of addicts. Sounds like something that would never happen, but it turns out it is happening right here in the old USA and is gaining traction in England. The charge is being led by a woman named Barbara Harris and her program called Project Prevention. Harris is the founder of Children Requiring a Caring Community (CRACK), the non-profit organization that carries out Project Prevention.
Hey there, podcast fans. I hope everyone has had a stellar week so far. It’s time for a little podcast recap — a chance for you to discuss what you think about this week’s shows. Tuesday we released the long awaited cults episode. This goes pretty well as a one two punch with the episode on brainwashing we did quite a while ago.
We learned all about how cults operate, how they recruit and a bit on what would make a person want to join a cult in the first place. Turns out there are some desperate folks out there looking for answers. We also hit a bit on how to exit a cult, from the forced kidnappings and deprogramming that has happened to the no kidnapping, let’s just get them out nicely and reprogram kind of thing.
Mr. Charlie Sheen has been sucking up all of the headlines these days with his multiple interviews addressing his behavior, his addictions and his show. He was first suspended from Two and a Half Men, and finally was fired late yesterday. Watching these interviews has been pretty distressing if you ask me. Sure, it’s funny at first, but in the end what we’re watching is the slow disintegration of a human being.
We did a podcast a short while ago about volcanoes. It was one of the more interesting ones if you ask me. Crazy to think how volatile the ground beneath our feet can be. As a great illustration of that volatility, here’s a cool article from the CNN blog today about a volcano in Hawaii that’s going nutso because of a crater collapse. Check it out and let us know what you think in the comments below.
Hello there, folks. Chuck here with a little podcast goodness wrap-up. This week on the Stuff You Should Know podcast program Josh and I talked about Japanese internment camps and fossils. What do the two have to do with one another? Nothing, but they’re interesting nonetheless.
Podcast Goodness: Tickling and Stagflation
by Charles W. Bryant | February 25, 2011
Hello, folks. Sorry for the absence, but the podcast goodness leg of the SYSK podcast program is back in full effect. Welcome to new readers, and hello to the old standbys. This week on the show we covered a couple of topics that are kind of weird when paired together — tickling and stagflation.
Since we get asked so much about our favorite podcasts, I decided to share my iTunes playlist. These are all shows I listen to pretty much weekly. Or I save them up and mainline them. Podcasting is still an emerging media, so much so that Wordpress is telling me that “podcast” is a misspelling. Listening to other podcasts is good for everybody who chooses this conduit to get their message out to the world. It’s pretty cool when you think about it.
Podcast Goodness: Circumcision and War Rules
by Charles W. Bryant | December 3, 2010
Hello there, folks. It’s time for a little podcast recap — a chance for the SYSK Army to sound off about the show topics. A forum, if you will.
This week on the Stuff You Should Know podcast program, Dr. Clark and myself got into a couple of odd topics. Well, neither one is odd on its own, but paired together it’s a bit weird. On Tuesday’s show we chatted it up about circumcision.
