PopStuff Show Notes: Episode 143: PopStuff’s Commentary Bonus Feature

by |

Holly and I do love commentary tracks … Holly loves them in general, and I love them when I also love the movie in question and really want to know all about the production of it. Case in point: “Lord of the Rings.” Some of the commentaries we talked about:

  • All of the “Lord of the Rings” ones. There are many.
  • “Fight Club” and the very cerebral commentary of Ed Norton
  • “Titanic” and commentary revelations about where the drowning foggy breath came from
  • The “Sense and Sensibility” commentary with Emma Thompson
  • The “Galaxy Quest” commentary that’s all in Thermian
  • The unlockable “Portal” commentary
  • Episode commentaries on “Buffy” episodes, and spoilers of future episodes in episode commentaries
  • Zack Snyder’s audio/visual commentaries
  • The downloadable “Looper” commentary, and Kevin Smith’s attempt to do the same with “Clerks II”
  • Onion AV Club’s “Commentary Tracks of the Damned,” and the “John Carter” commentary
  • Movies made early enough in the era of DVDs, which were not filmed with DVD extras in mind
  • Critics’ commentary tracks by Roger Ebert
  • The “Brave” commentary and its uncharacteristic loud and exciting-ness
  • Kevin Smith’s commentaries, and Jason Mewes’ presence therein
  • Robert Zemeckis commentaries as a master class in filmmaking
  • Werner Herzog’s voice
  • The “True Romance” commentary and its effect on Holly’s thoughts on Quentin Tarantino
  • The “Spinal Tap” in-character commentary, and all the other Christopher Guest commentaries
  • TV commentary tracks, including “Futurama” (of course)
  • The “Home Movies” commentaries
  • “Paranorman”
  • Listener mail! Kat with a “K” writes about our massage episode
  • Episode link: PopStuff’s Commentary Bonus Feature

My research:

  • Uhhh … I watched some commentaries.

Holly’s research:
