You know how sometimes it’s Christmastime, and maybe you don’t celebrate, or maybe you’re just over it, and you want to see something different … but without turning your back completely on the holiday? OK, maybe it’s just us. But we thought we’d talk about some of those movies that happen at Christmas but just aren’t “Christmas movies.”

• Some traits of “Christmas movies”: spiritual uplift and/or preachiness, family comedies, quirky family comedy-dramas, etc. And Cream of Wheat.
• Holly’s “Die Hard” dilemma (We have discovered, since we recorded, that it may be that she is so turned off by the presence of “Jingle Bell Rock” at the start that she just can’t get past it.)
• “Gremlins”
• “Ghostbusters 2” (and Jonathan Coulton and John Roderick’s song “The Week Between” off their new Christmas album “One Christmas at a Time”
• “Serendipity”
• Every “Little Women”
• “Cast Away”
• “When Harry Met Sally”
• The “Harry Potter” movies
• All of the “Lord of the Rings” movies
• “L.A. Confidential”
• “American Psycho”
• “Love Actually”
• Winter movies:  “Edward Scissorhands,” “The Shining” (and some others’ take-offs on it)
• “Prometheus”
