Adventure Sleeping at a Mountain Resort in Germany
by Amanda Arnold | November 30, 2011
Do you wish to dangle from great heights while you snooze?
Yes, you do. And you might as well do it in Bavaria, Germany, at an adventure resort called Waldseilgarten. Here at the mountain retreat, you will have three sleep-up-high options. They are as follows:
7-Second Sex Stat Debunked
by Cristen Conger | November 29, 2011
Ever been suspicious of that old saying about men thinking about s-e-x every 7 seconds? There’s good reason to be because it’s complete bunk. First, if sex were to cross men’s minds roughly 12,342 times every 24 hours, they’d get very little done (especially if the stereotype of male as less adept multitaskers is true). [...]
PopStuff Show Notes: Episode 19, Zombies. Why did it have to be zombies?
by Tracy V. Wilson | November 28, 2011
Our zombie episode published the day after “The Walking Dead” aired its midseason finale. That timing was completely planned, let me tell you. That’s just how on top of it Holly and I are when we go into the studio, especially when we’re recording stuff way ahead of time because of holiday scheduling. Really.
PopStuff Show Notes: Episode 18, Why aren’t there more Thanksgiving movies?
by Tracy V. Wilson | November 23, 2011
I can think of lots of Christmas movies. Some New Year’s movies, too. But before recording this podcast, if you’d asked me to name even one Thanksgiving movie, I would have stared at you for a minute before saying, “The Peanuts did a thing, right?” It turns out there are Thanksgiving movies — and the same themes crop up in a lot of them.
The Mysterious Margate Shell Grotto
by Amanda Arnold | November 23, 2011
What if, one day, you discovered a grotto in your backyard?
This has not happened to me. But in 1853, it happened to a kid named Joshua Newlove in Margate, England. When a hole in the ground appeared during the digging of a duck pond, Joshua’s father, a school headmaster named James Newlove, lowered Joshua into the hole to see what was below.
Thanksgiving: Psychology, Gratitude and Funky Music
by Robert Lamb | November 22, 2011
So once more residents of the United States find themselves on a collision course with the Thanksgiving holiday. Some of us make a point of celebrating it, some are obligated and others disregard it as much as possible. Between the traditional turkey gluttony and America’s historical mistreatment of Native Americans, there are certainly some good excuses to abstain. Growing up. I didn’t really care about the whole gratitude thing to be honest. Today, however, it feels appropriate to think a bit about what’s good in life and how little I’ve done to diverse any of it — and it looks like science backs me up on that.
Food Trucks begat Diners; or, What’s old is new again
by Josh Clark | November 22, 2011
Sometimes things come so clearly full circle that it’s elegant. An excellent case in point and the only one I can think of right now is the current trend toward buying one’s gourmet hotdogs and tacos from food trucks. It’s worth pointing out that it’s a trend in outlying cities like Atlanta, St. Louis. and San Francisco, though it’s has been pretty much permanent and largely taken for granted that at any given moment on certain streets in New York, there will be a line of trucks capable of preparing and serving hot food like gyros and sausages in exchange for cash only.
Kermit hands! Yaaaaaaaaay! A new movie starring the Muppets is imminent, and Holly and I are super, super excited. That should be obvious, considering that Holly calls the Muppets “one of the best things ever in the history of all mankind.” But are they still famous?
Three Medical Facts the Characters on ‘Walking Dead’ Should Know
by Tracy V. Wilson | November 21, 2011
I’ve been complaining a lot about “The Walking Dead” this season. I thought my complaint was that the story doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Example: We’re six episodes in, and we’ve still neither found Sophia nor stopped looking for her.
