Education is one of society’s most important long-term investments. Like so many other important issues, schooling can be an incredibly controversial topic. Pretty much everyone agrees that some sort of education is vital, but after that the consensus breaks down: What should we be teaching children, exactly? And how should we teach them?
In the presentation below, Sir Ken Robinson makes a fascinating (and witty) argument for the promotion of creativity in global education systems. As Robinson frames it, the world’s current public teaching systems came into being to satisfy the needs of industrialism. As a result, these systems tend to emphasize disciplines such as mathematics and science over the arts and creative skills.
And, according to Robinson, this system is not sustainable. The world is changing, and the structure of education must change, as well. Check out the video below and let me know what you think: What is the future of education? If you could change one thing about your local education system, what would it be?
