One of my favorite aspects of the AMC runaway hit “The Walking Dead” is the way it lovingly showcases its Atlanta setting. I got a serious kick out of seeing the city — street signs and all — so prominently displayed throughout the show’s first season and I just about fell off my couch when I learned that one of last season’s climactic moments was filmed mere minutes from my apartment. (In case you didn’t know, the role of the CDC was played by the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre just outside the city.) So you know I was giddy when I read an article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution last week highlighting the return of “The Walking Dead” to my neighborhood. Still shocked that the paper actually printed the exact location of the set and duration of the shoot, I took a break from running errands yesterday to head over to the Riverwood 100 office complex in Vinings and take some quick photos — my last chance, I figured, before film crews cut off street access. I held out little hope that a few photos of the local Toys R Us would give fans any clues about the upcoming season, but you never know, so I went home satisfied. For the most part.
This morning, however, I received a call from my fiancé, who passed by the set on his way to work and apparently hit the jackpot. Zombies and gunfire and police cars, oh my! He only had a few minutes to snap shots before the production crew started regulating, but — hey, zombies! Take a look at the photos below and try to keep them in mind as you watch the second season of “The Walking Dead” this fall. There could be some spoilers in here. Yes, take that as a giant warning if you want to know nothing about the show’s upcoming plot points.
Zombies doing what zombies do best — amble forward in search of tasty braaaaiiiiins.
A group of walkers head toward what looks like an overturned police car. Uh oh.
These zombies look like they’re about to drop. Is it the morning heat or the strain of being undead? Hmmm….
What have we here? I’m still trying to figure out exactly what that school bus is doing there (Is it a plot point or the weirdest ride to school ever? You decide), but this photo, combined with the one above showing that same overturned car under zombie attack in an area very close to the so-called CDC, gets my spoiler senses tingling.
