Quality space music takes the brain on a journey, be it in the form of some star-tripping P-funk, a sci-fi DJ mix or some retro synth cheese. But even space music’s most talented musicians go for the eyes first with some killer album art. So in this post, with the help of the HowStuffWorks staff, I’ve assembled the top 10 cosmic album covers of all time.

Education is one of society’s most important long-term investments. Like so many other important issues, schooling can be an incredibly controversial topic. Pretty much everyone agrees that some sort of education is vital, but after that the consensus breaks down: What should we be teaching children, exactly? And how should we teach them? Thanks to my buddy and tech guru extraordinaire Randall Bennett, I received an invite to Google+ yesterday. It hasn’t been 24 hours since I first logged into the service but I thought I’d share some of my thoughts so far. It’s clear that Google has created an interesting suite of tools and is trying to take advantage of how people rely on their social networks to discover new content. These days, you may rely on your social networks to find the latest news or funny cat videos rather than using search. Google+ clearly is an attempt to move with the times.

The very neat and succinct blog Parapolitical took the opportunity provided by recent murmurs about the military coup that the Greek government could face as a result of failed austerity measures and a desire to stay in the European Union to highlight a study conducted in 2004 by Harvard Business researcher Dr. Catherine Duggan. In it, Duggan surveyed the economies of 27 nations following coups each experienced between 1980 and 1997. She found that foreign investors prefer right wing paramilitary coups over left wing paramilitary coups by a landslide.

Ever since Molly and I talked about the modern struggle of naming babies on Stuff Mom Never Told You (folks used to just point to a name in the Bible, and presto!), listener letters have steadily rolled in, commiserating with the challenge of choosing a suitable title for a new child. Gather ’round, my friends, and let me tell you a tale of a giant that was brought to its knees. It’s a cautionary tale with a simple moral: Never assume you’ll always be number one. Chris and I have blogged about Myspace before. Back in February, I blogged about News Corp possibly selling the company off to whomever would be willing to take it. Chris blogged about massive layoffs at Myspace. Both of these posts came after Myspace’s attempt at a relaunch that saw the site refocus on becoming an entertainment portal. And now the news is that News Corp has indeed sold off the company at a huge loss.

Summertime is grill time for many of us. Who doesn’t love coming home from the local farmers’ market with a bag full of fresh, savory goodies ready for the grill — eggplant, peppers, corn, mushrooms, steak, bratwurst, chops. You’re set for a flavorful lunch or dinner that you can make and eat al fresco. But what about dessert? Does that require heading inside to bake something in the oven? Nope … more after the jump.

While reading an article in the Times Online about the differences between male and female orgasms, I stumbled upon my one of my favorite study “findings” to date. It turns out that while socks might not be the most arousing clothing item to wear during sex, it might improve your odds of having an orgasm.

I always thought “travel” was just, like, when you go somewhere.

But not everybody thinks every kind of “going somewhere” is worthy of the word. For example, travel writer Paul Theroux thinks you can’t even call travel “travel” unless, during the trip, you “endure a kind of alienation and panic.”
