Pull Up a Chair … to a 918-foot Table in China’s Guizhou Province

Why doesn’t this kind of meal take place on my street?

According to reports, the table set up in this photo was a whopping 918 feet (280 meters) long. And as you can see, it winds all the way up the street in Xijiang Town, a Miao ethnic minority village in Guizhou province, southwest China. In February 2011, about 1,000 locals and tourists sidled up to the table to chow down on traditional Miao cuisine, in celebration of the coming Spring Festival. This feast is just one of many delightful events that occur during the Chinese New Year celebration.

Most likely, what’s on that table is chicken porridge, fish (from the local pond and cooked with traditional spices), preserved ham, hot pot and rice wine, since those foods are standard fare at these long table banquet feasts, according to CNTN.

Yum.
