A review of the 2012 McLaren MP4-12C: According to this article: The MP4-12C has achieved all its performance targets in the same calculated fashion of its winning F1 team. It appeals to “in-the-know” car enthusiasts who prefer their supercars understated, a different path than Ferrari, which wows its customers with more emotional appeal. With a [...]

I first heard about the Geek a Week Project through TechStuff’s Jonathan Strickland, but a shout-out from cnn.com prompted me to take a peek at this innovative year-long project highlighting the accomplishments of geeks from a variety of disciplines. For a sports fan like me, though, the appeal of this project came down to three words: Geek. Trading. Cards.
Humans obsess over possible contact with intelligent alien species. How will we get along? How will we communicate? We don’t have to look into the future to contemplate such a meeting of minds however.
Just glance back in time 130,000 years or so and you’d find humanity’s first contact with the Neanderthals. Who were these human-like beings, how did they differ from us and how did they vanish from the world?
Apple Launches New MacBook Pros, Intel Breaks My Spirit
by Jonathan Strickland | February 24, 2011
The Apple store went offline briefly this morning, which is nearly always a sign that something new is going to pop up. In this case, the something new were the latest models of the MacBook Pro line of laptop computers. For some, like Galen Gruman of InfoWorld, the new computers were something of a letdown — they aren’t sleek cousins to the MacBook Air line. But Gruman admits that even though the new MacBook Pros won’t fit into an envelope, they pack a serious punch.
‘We Dare’ Tries to Prove You’re Never Too Old for Spin the Bottle
by Tracy V. Wilson | February 24, 2011
Full disclosure: As a giant, giant nerd, I never played spin the bottle. I’m actually not sure whether spin the bottle is a real thing, or if it’s only something that happens in tween movies and Judy Blume novels. But spin the bottle and the juvenile appeal thereof is what I thought of when TechStuff’s Jonathan Strickland sent me a link to the video below. Warning: It’s safe for work, I suppose, but it’s suggestive. And awkward and embarrassing.
Stuff Mom Never Told You about Female Pirates
by Molly Edmonds | February 24, 2011
Here’s a fun question for all of you: Who is your favorite pirate? Growing up in North Carolina, I learned an awful lot about Blackbeard, because he spent so much time hanging around my fair state, so I’d probably say he was my childhood favorite. As an adult, I’ve enjoyed getting to know that boozy pirate Captain Morgan, and because I’m scared of crocodiles, I’ve always had a lot of sympathy for Captain Hook.
I’m no expert on pirate culture, but even my cursory education is enough to show me that women are more sidekicks than stars on the dangerous high seas. That’s why it was so fun to record our latest episode of Stuff Mom Never Told You about female pirates.
Amazing what people can build #14 – The snow roller coaster
by Marshall Brain | February 24, 2011
What we see in the following video are two things. The first is a surprising snow roller coaster of a design I have never seen before. Then there is the aesthetic part at the beginning of the video – the snowman motif for the launch hill: This is not to say that people have not [...]
The drug trade demonstrates one interesting fact about capitalism. If there is a market for a product, even if it is an illegal market, people will try to satisfy the demand in return for money. If customers are willing to pay lots of money, the pressure to deliver products to the customers can be tremendous. [...]
