…and David and I are up to watch it in the backyard. It is 2:15AM eastern and everything was going well until this huge bank of clouds moved in. Whyyyyy?
Update – It’s 2:42AM eastern. The clouds broke enough for us to see it. It is an eclipsed moon with a very faint orange-ish color.
Update – It’s 3AM. If what you have on hand is a typical point-and-shoot camera with a 5x zoom and 3200 ISO capability, this is the kind of view you get with the camera at 3:00 AM eastern:

It really is better appreciated with your eyes. The clouds have all cleared out here, so you have a very dim moon and a lot of stars. It is nice.
I wonder, if it were 10,000 years ago, and if you were in the sort of culture advanced enough to know that tonight is the winter solstice, what you would make of this event…
