When Apple announced yesterday that the Beatles are now on iTunes, I didn’t expect the general sense of dismissive petulance that the Internet shot back. The vast majority of the coverage I read was somewhere between bored and negative. NPR’s Monkey See blog rounded up 10 of the best “who cares” tweets, including one from Wil Wheaton that surprised me a little, since he’s usually a big advocate of the idea that what’s old and tired to one person is fresh and exciting to another. (It was probably intended as more of a jab at Apple’s hype machine leading up to the announcement, which was, admittedly, very hype-y but still.) The Huffington Post’s roundup of tweets has a similar feeling of “meh.”

Kate McGroarty is just wrapping up an enviable journey. Over the past month, she’s gotten to sleep on a World War II submarine and in a cutting-edge home powered completely by solar and wind energy. She’s toured the Apollo 8 command module with astronaut Jim Lovell as her guide. She’s even done a handstand in a tornado. And she’s done it all without leaving her current hometown of Chicago.

Prior to popping the question, Prince William says he carried around Kate Middleton’s engagement ring for weeks — in his royal rucksack, no less — while the couple vacationed in Africa. The Prince was probably sweating bullets every time he reached in that rucksack because if he misplaced the bauble, there’d be no replacing it. He surprised his princess-to-be with the same sapphire and diamond ring his father presented to Princess Di when he proposed.

The holidays can be a lot of fun, bringing joy in many ways. Personally, one of my favorite things about the entire holiday season is the food. OK, I do enjoy eating — but there’s something I enjoy even more — and that’s making all the tasty holiday fare. If you’re like me, you love to cook. But if you’re also like me, sometimes you just don’t have time to do it the way you want to, and you have to find the easiest and FASTEST way from supermarket to dinner table. Typically, the holidays are different. There’s time [or you find a way to make time] to do it all — yes, in true Martha fashion — brining, basting, baking and everything else. But what do you do when you’re hosting and time isn’t on your side?
