A few days ago, Katie wrote about the panel in which we participated at Dragon*Con with Stuff You Missed in History Class. It was a lot of fun, and I’m glad we had the chance to take part. But Jonathan and I also had the opportunity to sit down with a couple of well-respected tech journalists, Tom Merritt and Veronica Belmont, to do a very special episode of TechStuff.
If you’re a child of the ’80s, try to say that last bit in the tone of voice they used when the networks would tease one of their sitcoms touching on a deep subject. If not, just carry on.
Anyhow, Tom and Veronica were there not just as tech journalists but to record a podcast which they do on their own, Sword & Laser. The podcast is only one part of their site, which is actually a fantasy and science fiction book club. If you’re into those topics, please check it out.
Our podcast, which we’ve titled “TechSword & LaserStuff at Dragon*Con,” is live today, so make sure you give it a listen. In it, we talk to Veronica and Tom about their show and some of their favorite topics, as well as some of their favorite tech topics and what it’s like to be tech journalists. The two of them are regular tech reporters, you see, rather than what Jonathan and I do — we write about and edit articles on other topics besides technology as part of our regular duties at HowStuffWorks.com, plus we don’t really cover breaking news on our site. It was kind of fun seeing what it’s like in the regular tech news world (Jonathan: It turns out it’s anything but regular).
It was also the first episode of the podcast we recorded in front of a live studio audience (cue ’80s sitcom announcer again). That was a little strange at first, but in the end, kind of fun! Thanks go to both Veronica and Tom for their participation in the podcast!
So make sure you give it a listen, and let us know what you think. Check in with us on Twitter and Facebook!
