Why America is obese #3 – Pancakes and sausage on a stick

by |

I saw this ad over the weekend in Parade magazine. The tag line is, “New Jimmy D’s helps your kids reach their full potential. Made with Turkey sausage, it’s a great way to start their day right.” In fact, it appears to be the opposite:

Looking at the Nutrition information, we find that this product contains 2 teaspoons of sugar, 410 mg of sodium, 21 grams of carbs. So it will help children to reach their full potential for high blood pressure, or weight gain, but little else. It contains no fruits, no vegetables, no vitamins, no fiber.

We live in this very strange world, where a griddle stick can be called “a great way to start their day right”, even though it isn’t. Messages like that are repeated so often by so many companies in so many ads that, apparently, a majority of Americans actually believe it. So we now live in a country where two thirds of adults, and a large percentage of children, are overweight and obese, and related diseases like high blood pressure and diabetes are rising rapidly.

If you are overweight or obese and would prefer not to be, please see:
