I just read this article by Ben Kuchera over at Ars Technica about Nintendo’s next portable gaming device, the 3DS. Yup, Nintendo is jumping on the 3-D bandwagon. That’s not a huge shock — 3-D technology has been a big deal at the Consumer Electronic Show for the last few years and we’re starting to see that technology finally enter the consumer market.

This morning, FanStuff’s Tracy V. Wilson pointed out an article by Wired’s Priya Ganapati, in which she talks about a brand-new technology for digital camera image sensors. A California-based company named InVisage Technologies has created an image sensor that uses quantum dots rather than silicon as you’d find in the charged-couple device (CCD) or complementary silicon oxide semiconductor (CMOS) image sensors that predominate the digital camera industry.

The next time you’re dining Japanese and order a seaweed salad, maybe make it a double. A study from the University of Newcastle found that a fiber found in seaweed can potentially block more than 75 percent of fat uptake.

Instead of the body breaking down and absorbing dietary fats, a seaweed fiber called alginate appears to halt that process. Testing its effects in an artificial gut, the seaweed fiber also fat-blocked better than 60 other natural fibers and over-the-counter obesity medications.
