Podcast Goodness: Urban Planning Taxidermists

by |

Hello there, and a big old salute to the SYSK Army from Lance Corporal Chuckers. No, I surprisingly haven’t risen in the ranks here in my own Army – how sad.  Field General Clark has a firm grip on promotions around here and along with Major Jeri, they have the upper ranks sewn up.

Enough of that goofy stuff, let’s get down to business here. This week on the Stuff You Should Know podcast program General Clark and myself tackled a couple of odd jobs that can both be looked at as an art form. Tuesday’s show on urban planning was more interesting than I initially thought it might be. It turns out these people do a whole lot more than map out new highways or poo-poo current sprawl. They make detailed game plans on how to improve the current urban landscape and shape it for the future. This includes a realistic plan with costs and detailed timetables.

Yesterday we hit on taxidermy, a listener request. It was fun to shine a light on this odd profession and the crotchety people who mount and stuff animals. One of the big takeaways for me on this one is that not all taxidermists mount hunted animals. In fact, many refuse to work with hunted animals altogether and work only with natural history museums and roadkill finds. Josh had an excellent lead story about coming home to find a hawk crashed through his front window of his house. His dreams of mounting the impressive bird were dashed when he learned hawks can’t legally be mounted in the state of Georgia. Bummer.

Hope everyone has a great weekend as Spring in springing here in the ATL. Let’s hear your urban planning complaints and taxidermy stories. I know there are some out there!
