The STS-130 Shuttle Mission #11 – The space shuttle has docked with the International Space Station

by |

Around mindnight last night, space shuttle Endeavor docked with the International Space Station, and the hatches between the two spacecraft opened at 2:16 AM EST this morning. Here is what the hatch opening looked like:

This time-lapse video shows the docking process. It includes a shuttle roll-over so that it can be photographed to check for tile damage from the launch:

According to the video description, “This video is at approximately 60 times actual speed. Some video clips have been rotated 180 degrees for clarity of orientation. The amount of real-time covered is about two hours.”

According to NASA, here is the plan for today:

After the rendezvous pitch maneuver Zamka moved his ship directly in front of the station and began slowly backing in for the docking. After leak checks were completed, the hatches between the vehicles opened at 2:16 a.m. to begin the joint operations.

Among the first items to be transferred to the station are the spacesuits that Behnken and Patrick will wear during their three spacewalks and hardware for the replacement and checkout of the new Distillation Assembly that Williams will install in the station’s Water Recovery System.
