Ferrari 599 Hybrid Image Leaked Ahead Of Geneva Motor Show – “The times, they are a changin’, and even Ferrari is being dragged into the hybrid scene. We brought you news yesterday that, during the debut of Ferrari’s 2010 F10 Formula 1 car, CEO Luca de Montezemolo revealed that a production-ready hybrid version of the [...]
Literature lovers, malcontents and misfits everywhere have been in mourning since their patron saint, “Catcher in the Rye” author J.D. Salinger passed away yesterday at age 91. The beloved scribe had been living as a recluse since the 1960s and repeatedly turned down requests for interviews. It’s fairly safe to assume that he would never, ever, ever approve a cinematic depiction of his most famous creation, sullen preppy Holden Caulfield. That assumption is 100 percent correct.
You know, the history podcast hasn’t afforded us nearly enough opportunities to talk about camels. Or long-haired rats. Thankfully for us, if not for Burke and Wills, the Victorian Exploring Expedition let us rectify the situation on Monday’s podcast.
On Wednesday’s podcast, we tackled Toussaint L’ouverture’s role in the Haitian Revolution, a years-long battle that had its roots in the French Revolution and erupted in St. Domingue in blood and fire.

by Scott C. Benjamin | January 29, 2010
Well, it’s time for another weekly rundown of what Ben and I have been up to on our High Speed Stuff podcast over the past few days. So, here we go…
Tuesday was a good day. That’s because we got to talk about the fastest drag racing cars on the planet — Top Fuel Dragsters. You know the ones we’re talking about, right? They cover the quarter-mile in just over four seconds at speeds upwards of 300 miles per hour (483 kilometers per hour).
Cosmic Megastructures: How to Enslave a Star
by Robert Lamb | January 29, 2010
The sun is the powerhouse for our solar system, heating the spheres with its radiation and holding everything from gas giants to asteroids in thrall to its massive gravity. Stars, in their various forms, are the most powerful forces in the known universe, so it only comes naturally that a species of egotistical apes would dream about capturing one and bending it to their will.

OK, this is pretty neat. Leslie Katz at CNET posted this a couple of days ago and I was saving it for today. It’s a board game that has organic LED (OLED) game pieces. Michael Rooke and Roel Vertegaal of the Human Media Lab of Queens University in Ontario have been working on the idea and published a paper about it.
Here is a very simple card trick that could earn you a lot of money in bar bets. Really. And it doesn’t involve any sleight of hand at all. Watch him perform the trick, and then pause the video when he gets done, at the 2 minute point: Admit it – it is a good [...]
