Good question – what would earth look like if it had rings like saturn?
by Marshall Brain | November 21, 2009
The most interesting part of the video is the views from different cities on earth, and the explanation of why the view would look like that:
Earth may soon have rings of a sort, in an effort to cut global temperatures:
Will space mirrors really be able to cool the planet?

One of the biggest things that they neglected to show would be the loss of the tides, as well they also didn’t talk about the seasonal eclipse that would accompany the shadow cast upon the rings. There would be parts of the world that would experience seasonal nights in the winter time and would have to wait until the seasonal axis shift of the earth to get out of the shadow caused by the rings. This would of course depend upon the density of the ring, but likely it would cause insanely cold temperatures in the winters with maybe about a month or so of darkness, but again, that would depend upon how wide the ring was.
The loss of the tides would destroy a tonne of ocean life and the ring eclipse would really disrupt the photoplankton across vast areas of the ocean. But it would look pretty, so who cares. ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE!!
