The 50 Ugliest Cars…Seriously?!?

Good grief! Am I alone in thinking that the Ferrari Enzo DOES NOT belong on BusinessWeek’s list of the (supposedly) 50 ugliest cars of the past 50 years? Oh, but the madness doesn’t stop there. Several other questionable picks made the list, too.

It was just a day or two ago when a fellow HowStuffWorks.com staffer (Thanks, Rob!) sent me a link to a list that he thought might spur some good commentary among the High Speed Stuff blog readers. And now that you’ve had a chance to look at the list, I’m sure you can see why he might think that.

To be fair, the list DOES include several cars that look like they fell through an ugly tree and hit every branch, but there are easily just as many cars that I find myself wanting to defend. For instance, what the heck is the Scion iQ doing in there? If that car was available right now, I’d already have my checkbook out and a pen in my hand. And the BMW 7 Series? I don’t even know where to begin with that one. And what about the Plymouth Prowler? Sure, it wasn’t for everyone and yes it was underpowered, but a factory-built hot rod design? That deserves some credit, doesn’t it?

I could go on, but I’d much rather hear from you. So, what do you think of this controversial list? What cars would you add? What cars would you remove? And do you think that some of those cars were added just to provoke a response? I do. And I guess it worked, didn’t it?

I really have always liked the new VW beetle, and was kind of surprised to see that on there. I do think the Ferrari is ugly, though, sorry!

Where’s the Saab Sonnett III?

Rob Sheppe says:

That 1984 Toyota Van is pretty gnarly.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What does Business Week know about automotive design? It would be like Motor Trend reporting on the economic conditions in India. The Enzo is a beautiful car with its F1 inspired design. Sure there was some real ugly cars on that list, but I can think of more ugly cars I see every day, like the Honda Element and the last generation Toyota Camry which was possibly the most bland looking sedan ever produced.

i agree with most of the cars up there except the chevy avalanche (but it does need a bigger bed) and the ferrari is just so nice! i mean ferrari wouldnt name an ugly car after their founder!
