Hey there! Today I’m blogging from my secret lair (editor’s note: It’s his couch). It’s all part of my master plan to genetically engineer an enormous monster (editor’s note: He found a stray dog and is taking care of it). Soon, this creature will devour entire communities (editor’s note: The dog was suffering from starvation and dehydration and Jonathan is a complete pushover for animals in need). Quake in fear, puny mortals!

While you await your doom, you can pass the time by listening to a couple of excellent episodes of TechStuff. On Monday, Chris and I tackled a subject that has set the rumor mill into full swing: the Apple tablet. The tablet might be larger than an iPhone or iPod Touch. It might have the touchscreen technology allowing it to detect multiple points of contact as well as feature an accelerometer and other cool features. And why do I say “might?” It’s because the tablet doesn’t exist in any official capacity. No one at Apple will talk about it or even admit that the company is looking into building a tablet device. Everything we know is based on guesses and a few leaks from the supply chain side. But from that tiny bit of information, some people have projected enormous predictions for the tablet. Chris and I decide to take a slightly more cautious approach.

Wednesday’s episode took its inspiration from a pair of listener mail submissions. What’s up with the QWERTY keyboard’s layout? Is it all based on typewriters? Why haven’t we changed the layout now that typewriters are practically obsolete? Are there other configurations that would suit us better than what we’ve become used to? And what about those really expensive keyboards that can change what each key displays? We cover it all.

Now I must return to my laboratory (editor’s note: It’s the garage) and check on my experiment (editor’s note: The dog needs to go for a walk).
