When you throw in routine traffic stops for things like speeding, plus police road blocks, etc., the number of police encounters per year is staggering. And it makes sense – there are approximately half a million officers in the United States. If each of them interacts with just one citizen per day, that is close to 200 million interactions per year. The actual number would be much higher.
