How to ride a motorcycle

Let’s say that you have never been on a motorcycle before, and you want to learn how to ride one. There is no way, without some kind of instruction, for you to ride a motorcycle. Motorcycle controls are completely non-intuitive and very confusing for a new rider.

This video provides a nice introduction and teaches you all the basics. Once you watch it, you could probably ride a motorcycle:

If you have a choice, your first experience on a motorcycle should be: a) in a big, grassy pasture, and b) on a lightweight bike, like a 300 or 400 cc bike. (If you can’t find a pasture, find a huge empty parking lot.) The reason to consider grass is because there is a pretty good chance on the first day that you will fall over at least once. In a grassy field with a light bike, chances are that you won’t get hurt and you won’t damage the bike. And you will be able to pick the bike up. A 1,000 cc bike can be pretty heavy after you lay it down.
