Most of us have heard of flash floods, but have never actually seen one. Here is what a real flash flood looks and feels like:

That’s a flash flood in a rain forest. Here is one produced by a thunderstorm in a desert area. Notice how it goes from “dry riverbed” to “full river” in just a few seconds:
And a rural area in Australia:
A flash flood like this is caused when a storm dumps a large amount of water in an area over a short time period. The ground has no way to absorb it and all of the water becomes run-off, overwhelming local streams and dry creeks.
