This is both funny and frustrating. It is a song called “United Breaks Guitars” and it tells the story of United Airlines baggage handlers destroying a musician’s guitar.

It is also enlightening. 20 years ago, think about how impossible it would have been for a “normal person” to do something like this. From creating your own music video (using PC-based editing tools, home studio equipment, cheap digital video equipment, etc.) to worldwide free video publishing (using YouTube and similar sites) to large-scale free publicity (through social media sites, blogging sites, etc.), it is amazing.

How long before this song is playing on country music stations? (OK, maybe that doesn’t ever happen because radio stations are still in the old world)

How long before United rethinks its position? Or at least addresses the complaint publicly, since we are hearing only one side of the story here.
