Good question – Why didn’t this window break?

by |

Many people have the following mental image – “When you throw a rock at a window, the window breaks.” Yet, in the following video, that doesn’t happen at all. Instead, the rocks bounce right off the window:

Why doesn’t the window break? Because in the last several years there has been a revolution in “security glass”, both to prevent burglaries and to help during natural disasters like hurricanes and tornadoes.

Here is one example – a DIY film that provides a great deal of protection:

Do It Yourself Window Security Film – “Protect your family and property with ACE high quality window security film. Eliminate the worries of broken windows from violent weather or forced entry by adding a protective barrier. This thin clear virtually invisible layer of protection is easily applied to your glass or windows…”

More info: ACE Security Laminates

Also common is manufactured laminated glass similar to the glass you find in a car windshield. It is two sheets of glass with a strong plastic barrier between them:

1) Make Your Home A SafeHarbor with Our Impact/Hurricane Windows

2) Scroll down on this page to the “Protector” options: “Hurricane-Resistant and Stops a .22 cal. bullet”. They use laminated glass from GlassLam

In other words, if you would like to have “break-proof” windows for your home or business, they are available.
