Video: iRobot Rolls Out One-Pound Machine, Ready to Swarm – “The idea is for a soldier to dispatch a swarm of these “Ember” bots to scout out a possibly-hostile building, instead of sending a single, large Packbot. Once inside, the Embers would set up an ad-hoc wireless network, and then autonomously scurry around the floor (kind of like iRobot’s Roomba vaccum cleaning automaton). Tiny flippers will help them vault over objects. Cameras will beam the scene back to the G.I…”
Even hydrogen cars have a carbon problem – “Given all the electricity needed to get hydrogen compressed and ready for the tank, that juice will need to come from solar, wind or (whisper it) nuclear power to get the fuel cells under the hood nearer to zero carbon output over the fuel’s ”life-cycle.” According to a Volkswagen manager developing the technology, the current mix of power generated on the U.S. grid is still too dirty…”

With respect to the third article.
“After Lehman Brothers crashed,” he says, “The Wall Street Journal carried an analysis that is still the best thing I have seen on the subject. But the story needed half a dozen qualified financial journalists to put it together, and masses of research that no lonely blogger could possibly do . . . This throws into relief the intractable fact that the liberty which the web offers to the individual voice is also a restriction on group effort.”
Institutions — publishers, newspapers, museums, universities, schools — exist precisely because they can do more than individuals. If web 2.0 flattens everything to the level of whim and self-actualisation, then it will have done more harm than good.
In those paragraphs the author ignores the example of sites like Wikipedia. One of the strengths of of “web 2.0″ (a term I dislike) is that it allows collaboration on a vast scale without the huge cost of a large institution.

With respect to the 3rd link (http://technology.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/tech_and_web/the_web/article6301123.ece). The author ignores the role of the web in Wikipedia, or the development of OSS. The web allows vast collaborative efforts with out the huge expenses of large institutions.
