One of the things I know people like about Twitter is that some famous people have started using it too. While some may not care if their co-worker is walking her dog, they might be interested to read a Twitter message from Paris Hilton walking her dog. Or paying someone to walk it, perhaps.
There’s even been some recent news about star athletes using Twitter — Charlie Villanueva, a forward for the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks, made news for posting to Twitter during halftime of a game on March 15, AP writer Chris Jenkins wrote a few days later. Villanueva was later asked by his team to refrain from using the service during games. Howard Beck of The New York Times reported that Phoenix Suns center Shaquille O’Neal recently started using Twitter after a 33-year-old fan named Ward Andrews was discovered impersonating O’Neal.
The 2011 Tesla S made its debut this week. This is the sedan that Tesla has been talking about ever since it released the roadster. Details are a bit scarce, but it looks good. What’s great about the following article is that all of the pertinent details are in the headline: Tesla Model S: $50,000 [...]
Fugitive U.S. Marshal: To Live and Die in Juarez
by Josh Clark | March 27, 2009
There are two opposite ways of living life. One is as an upstanding citizen: not cutting too many corners, reporting all income to the IRS, tithing to churches from all of the major religions, not offending too many people. It’s the risk-averse Ned Flanders method. On the opposite pole is living wholly and entirely on the edge…
Chuck and I and our producer Jeri got to do something really cool recently; we created our first spoken-word album out of thin air. One day, no spoken-word album; a couple weeks later — poof! — there’s an SYSK spoken-word album on the economy and economics. What’s cool about the spoken-word album label is that there’s a Grammy category for such things. I’m just saying.
I’ve always viewed spoken-word albums as the kind of thing that’s put out by guys who wear heavy wool cardigans with suede elbow patches — as uncomfortably mellow as those gents in the recent Burger King commercials for their mushroom-and-Swiss burgers. True, Chuck wore one of those sweaters a lot while we recorded, and I would be lying if I said I didn’t eat mushroom-and-Swiss burgers until I couldn’t move without assistance, but listening to the Super Stuffed Guide now it’s clear that this had little impact on the final result.
If you watch this video, you will see some very bizarre looking elongated skulls: This page explains where they came from: The act of elongating the skull was achieved by binding the head of a child with cloth, rope and boards. As the child’s skull grew and developed, it would elongate. The obvious question is: [...]
Such a nice video explaining the simplest of things – a loaf of bread. And you don’t even need to knead this stuff. Just let it sit for 18 hours, and then again for another two, and bake it. What does he mean by “glutenous strands”? See: How Bread Works for details. [[[See previous DIY]]]
Old-School Keyboard Makes Comeback Of Sorts – ” Almost all keyboards made since the early 1990s are, frankly, no good. A tiny group of writers and hackers know better. They use vintage IBM keyboards. Ugly, built like tanks, and, most importantly, with a spring under each key, and which clicks when you press it…” – [...]
You Asked: What is a virus? — Anitha, Coimbatore, India Marshall Answered: A virus – assuming we are talking about something like a cold virus, or the AIDS virus – is a fascinating hack in nature. Viruses are not alive. They contain a little bit of genetic material inside a wrapper. The wrapper has the [...]
You Asked: Does white vinegar take away sunburn? — Amy, Philadelphia Pennsylvania Marshall Answered: When too many ultraviolet rays hit skin cells in the dermis, you get a sunburn. The rays damage and kill the cells. The damaged cells send signals to nerve endings, which react to the damage with pain signals to your brain. [...]
You Asked: Can vinegar help my hair? — Patience, Ornkey, South Africa Marshall Answered: Vinegar probably won’t hurt your hair, and it might help. But everyone’s hair is different. So you might try it and see if you like the results. If you do, then you can keep using it. If not, you can stop. [...]
