What are the insides of an electric guitar and how do they work? — Chirs, Front Royal, Virginia

Marshall Answered:
The important part of an electric guitar is called the pickup. It contains a magnet wrapped by many coils of thin copper wire. When a metal string vibrates over the pickup, it creates an electrical field in the coil, which the amp detects and amplifies. For more info see How Electric Guitars Work
