How are animations made? — Jags, Valley Stream, New York

There are lots of different techniques, but the basic principle is the same. What you are trying to do is create a set of still frames that, when displayed to your eyes at a rate of 20 to 30 frames per second, give the appearance of motion. The simplest way to do this is to create a flip book. In the case of early Disney animation, the images were drawn by hand one at a time on clear sheets of cellophane and then photographed frame by frame onto motion picture film for playing in a projector. Today it is common for computers to draw the frames, and for them to be displayed digitally on a screen. For more info see: How TV Animation Works
