Shameless Plug: The SYSK Super Stuffed Guide to the Economy
by Josh Clark | March 27, 2009
Chuck and I and our producer Jeri got to do something really cool recently; we created our first spoken-word album out of thin air. One day, no spoken-word album; a couple weeks later — poof! — there’s an SYSK spoken-word album on the economy and economics. What’s cool about the spoken-word album label is that there’s a Grammy category for such things. I’m just saying.
I’ve always viewed spoken-word albums as the kind of thing that’s put out by guys who wear heavy wool cardigans with suede elbow patches — as uncomfortably mellow as those gents in the recent Burger King commercials for their mushroom-and-Swiss burgers. True, Chuck wore one of those sweaters a lot while we recorded, and I would be lying if I said I didn’t eat mushroom-and-Swiss burgers until I couldn’t move without assistance, but listening to the Super Stuffed Guide now it’s clear that this had little impact on the final result.
Aside from the hour-long format, what differentiates the Super Stuffed Guide is the cost. SYSK podcasts are free; our spoken-word album is not. It’s priced pretty reasonably, we think, at — let me check — $3.99. It covers exactly what mechanisms are at work right that led to the global economy landing squarely at the toilet and how economics will ultimately bring us out of it (sorry, I just spoiled the plot twist). It’s up on iTunes right now and there’s a promo for it in the top of the Audiobooks home page on iTunes today. You can also find it pretty easily by typing in “super stuffed” in iTunes’ handy search bar.
Check it out, won’t you, so we can put out more guides in the very near future? Also, Chuck’s, Jeri’s and my careers are riding on it, so there’s that, too.

Just Curious
But in iTunes it isn’t under Audiobook but in Music -> Spoken Word -
Wait! *Don’t* buy this Super Stuffed Guide! Seriously, these guys might retire on the profits and we’ll never hear from them again…or they might start charging for their podcast!
Wait! *Do* buy this Super Stuffed Guide! Seriously, the Josh/Chuck combo is the all-time best of all duo’s–not only entertaining, but very informative and their wit is sharper than a Hanzo Sword.
Okay, stop waiting and go buy this awesome SSG! It’s worth far more than $3.99!

Hello! I’m a fan from China and I’ve listened to your super cool podcast for over 6 months. Congratulations on your debut spoken album.
And please Josh, stop using the word “Shameless”. Promotion helps to make things sell. If it wasn’t for your metioning on the Mount Everest episode, I wouldn’t have “rushed” to itunes store, bought it and then fallen in love with it!May I mention somthing here that confuses me in the Super Stuffed Guide?
I remember Chuck said that China uses a fixed exchange rate against US dollars. But I think we has adopted a floating exchange rate since July 21st, 2005. I’m aware that China was famous for having a fixed exchange rate against US dollars for many years and People’s Bank of China until today maintains certain control over how the exchange rate floats. Maybe that’s why Chuck think it’s fixed. Still, to be accurate, it’s a floating one.Anyway, that dosen’t change my favorable on your new album. I hope it’s a huge seller because I want more SSGs to listen to!! And I totally agree with all guys above that the album is absolutely underpriced!!

hello !!!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys, I’m in mortgage banking and feel as though my industry may have had a teensy tiny, little bit (okay, so it was pretty huge) part in everything that’s going on. I’ll be buying the SSG this evening, so I can only hope there’s info in it exonerating me. At least a little. Can’t wait to hear more SSGs. Keep up the great work.

I asked in Chucks area so sorry about repeating my self but do you think there is any chance of you selling it on the Zune Market Place? I don’t use iTunes as I am a big fan of MS and the Blue Screen of Death (cutting off the Mac Fanboys before they pounce). Hope to hear back from you.

I would like to purchase this, but i live outside of US (Singapore), and i cannot purchase from iTunes. Do you know how I can buy this where i live?
Thanks!

Love the podcasts…. would like to buy the Super Stuffed Guide to the Economy too but not all of us have (or want) to install iTunes on our PC. Think it’ll ever be sold anywhere other than the heart of Apple? Amazon or Audible would be nice for us folks with Zune players.

Guys, seriously please…a direct download or the ability to download it on the Zune Marketplace. I really want to buy the SSGE, but refuse to use Apple’s stuff.
Thanks!
-
long time listener of SYSK, but need a nice little mp3 for my PC…. any options other than itunes ?
