If you think about it, this is also a nice demonstration of progress. Back in 1996 when Quake first appeared (and in subsequent versions like QII, etc.), you had to go to a fair amount of trouble hardware-wise to play the game with any kind of decent frame rate. Hardware has now advanced to the point where you play it in a browser.
